COCO x Gillian Kyle
We're excited about our collaboration with Scottish designer Gillian Kyle to create a unique wrapper for our new, limited edition, Haggis Spice Dark Chocolate Bar. As an independent Scottish business that often works with international artists, it's a pleasure to produce a flavour that reflects Scottish culture and to work with a talented local artist.
Brought back by popular demand, the Haggis Spice Dark Chocolate Bar launched on St. Andrew's day and is available in our online shop. We chatted with Gillian Kyle about this original design, check out the interview below.
How did you find the collaboration with COCO?
"I had a lot of fun working on this collab. I really liked the idea of Haggis chocolate, it's fun and wonderfully Scottish, which is basically how I'd like my own work and brand to be described! And as a confirmed chocoholic, this was a great fit all round."
How did you come up with the design?
"With haggis being one of the most recognised symbols of Scotland, I went with a rebooted version of my Love Scotland design; a collection of our best-loved Scottish icons, including a wee haggis (of course)."
What inspired you?
"Scotland, Scottish culture and the iconography that goes with both of these is my constant source of inspiration."
How did you go about designing it?
"I'm an illustrator at heart and I always like to start with pen and ink. There is something magical about black ink on white paper; it's so defined and strong. I'm a sucker for a beautifully expressive line! After the drawings are done I work digitally, creating the design layout and adding colour. In this case, a strong, bright, Scottish blue to add some zing."
What will you take away from this collaboration?
"It has been great collaborating with another strong Scottish brand. Designing packaging rather than the product itself has been a new and interesting challenge which has prompted me to think in different ways; it's always good to shake things up a little!"
